Consciousness

On Consciousness and the Limits of Explanation

Some of what happens in healing outruns our ability to account for it.

After twenty years of this work, I remain unwilling to claim that I understand it fully. Things occur in a quiet room between two people that no model I know accounts for neatly.

This is not an argument for mysticism. It is an argument for honesty. The most careful practitioners I have known are the ones most comfortable saying that something exceeded their explanation.

What I trust is the pattern: that attention has effects, that presence is not neutral, and that consciousness is not merely a spectator to the body's affairs.

We do not need a complete theory to work well. We need to stay accurate about what we observe, and humble about the rest.
